Earth Expects You To Respect Her

In a beautifully direct article in the Guardian, Nemonte Nenquimo, cofounder of the Indigenous-led nonprofit organization Ceibo Alliance, explains how “Earth does not expect you to save her, she expects you to respect her.” – A sequitur into humanity having to build new systems that adhere to the principles of nature. Sounds familiar? Yep, you’ve come to the right place.

Nemonte goes on to say: “when you say that you are urgently looking for climate solutions, yet continue to build a world economy based on extraction and pollution, we know you are lying because we are the closest to the land, and the first to hear her cries.” – This is the reason why we must address the cause of our ignorance not the endless flurry of consequences. Meaning, we must build systems that turn the vectors of human expansion toward human adaptability to nature’s entropy eradicating undesirable consequences. Change cannot be optional, for nature’s authoritarian rule is not.

“You forced your civilisation upon us and now look where we are: global pandemic, climate crisis, species extinction and, driving it all, widespread spiritual poverty.” – With, as I have explained many times over, manmade constructs in violation of nature’s principles. Nature harbors all the answers to perfect our evolution, and it behooves us to pay attention.

“…the white man that knows too little for the power that he wields, and the damage that he causes.” – We can and must revert our ignorance to the principles of nature that dictate the excellence and longevity of humanity. We must not play humanity’s favorite monopoly game of solipsism but begin to adhere to nature’s game that serves our collective interests as a species. We are responsible for our own excellence, not nature’s.

We do not need to revert back to indigenous standards of living to respect the rule of nature. All we need to do is infuse the principles of nature into everything we do. Only then will we maximize the time we have on this beautiful planet we call home.

Let every day be an indigenous day!
