Positive, The Most Negative Word Of 2020

This lovely quote showed up on Facebook, reminding me of another prescient post I wrote many years ago about The positivity that kills us—followed by a rebuke of many other high-flying progenitors of misplaced positivity. We are killing ourselves with the ignorance of reality, sold as positivity.

Let us not be negative for negativity’s sake but assign the adjective of positivity only to honest people reasoning from the point of the brutal reality as it exists today.

People always ask me why The United States, arguably the most developed country in the world, is suffering from the worst response to the Coronavirus to date.

My answer, steeped in reality and by order of importance, is as follows:

Take that pacifier of false positivity out of your mouth, and let’s tackle humanity’s problems with the newfound reality of how society can and must adapt to nature’s entropy systematically.

In the meantime, please, practice the recommendations issued by the CDC. It is a small price, even if you disagree with them. A small price only when behind the scenes, we build a better and more systematic defense against the many curve-balls of entropy nature is bound to continue to throw our way.

I am a cynical realist, determined we can, must, and shall do better, having discovered a systematic humanitarian response borrowed from nature’s toolkit.

The sign of a vibrant, innovative nation is its willingness to pursue the ever-unfolding discovery of nature's truth and reinvent itself continually against those proven new normalizations upstream. Let’s inspire the world with new rigors of excellence we first and successfully apply to ourselves.
