When you listen to the discussion of Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg with Yuval Noah Harari, an Israeli historian and a professor in the Department of History at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, it is clear the dreadful 90-minute talk did not provide any clear answers as to the useful role of social media.
Self-importance
The Facebook CEO’s 2019 series of public discussions about the future of technology in society portrays as if Facebook is open to truly meeting the needs of humanity, while in reality, it acts as a propaganda machine fed by advertising that does the opposite.
What Mark does not seem to understand, and Yuval appeared not to want to stress-test, is that the wants of society are not equal to the needs of humanity. Hence, instead of tailoring to the convulsions of societal wants, Kardashian lifestyles of the rich and famous, Facebook should subscribe to the higher-order qualitative issue of improving the excellence of humanity to make the most intelligent species on earth outlive a common fly.
Today, technology is the vibrator of human masturbation, ignoring the copulation needed to strengthen the renewal of humanity.
Change Facebook
Facebook does have the opportunity to promulgate and begin to implement a new operating-system for humanity. By subjugating to nature’s proven first-principles that have already defined the guardrails of merit contributing to human evolution for us, Facebook must change from boosting common interests towards boosting the plurality of our innate differences that will expand the fractal of human ingenuity and capacity. The inverse of the strategy Facebook deploys today.
To reiterate some of my perspectives on Facebook (read them all here):
- A massive opportunity for Facebook
- Small Thinking Facebook
- Facebook Policy
- How can Facebook be regulated?
- How Facebook amplifies our stupidity
- Listen Facebook
- Why does Facebook believe a monoculture fed by advertising is good for the world?
I challenge Mark to a higher-order conversation about the ability of technology to enhance the excellence of humanity.
