Neither. Capital currently greatly influences politics in the US, in more opaque ways than today’s formal legislation can curtail. The whole lobbying practice thrives on the infusion of capital to influence Congressional commissions and individual members. Politics is a highly rigged pay-to-play game.
Politics should not directly influence capital, but the government should establish the thesis of human gameplay that determines what can be discovered (Einstein), and be responsible for the definition and adherence to the principles of freedom that promulgate dynamic marketplaces with capital operating using the same meritocracy as government’s constituents. Politics has failed to achieve the foundational principles on which thriving societies depend, for it has yet to define freedom to which all other systems must be subjugated.
It is no surprise that our freedom is a mess of theatrical make-believe. For our constitution references freedom frequently yet has failed to define even the most rudimentary definition of freedom. And 240 years of evolution has since led to oligarchic suppositions of freedom quite the opposite of free. Hence, neither politicians nor the arbitrage of innovation (capital) operates in accordance with the freedom of freedom to set us truly free.
Who is the worst denier of freedom and who controls who, therefore, depends very much on the topic at hand. And so, expect the interference of capital in politics and vice versa to exacerbate amidst a glowing pretense of freedom.
We must reinvent the operating-systems of humanity for us to outlive a fly.
