I would correct him by telling him to work smarter, not harder.

Working hard suggests more revelations derived from an existing normalization of truth makes a difference. A rat-race that is unsustainable. Instead, I would want him to work smarter and come up with a new normalization of truth that obliterates the competition rather than competes.
