Well, a venture capital firm that deploys these people doesn’t realize outlier entrepreneurs cannot be found by people raised in the schools of uniformity. Hence the scouts are merely sipping foam off of hot chocolate. Proverbially.
But I know full well why VC firms have begun doing deploying scouts. For the thesis of venture capital investing has turned predominantly subprime, a fancy word for uniform. Venture capital has become heavily dependent on the collusion with peers as the only way to weed through piles of uniform ideas such sub-priming has attracted. A vicious cycle of subpriming best left to an innocent young scout who does not question authority and proverbially sips the foam off the hot chocolate.
I have seen these people deployed in Silicon Valley, by DFJ and the likes. As an entrepreneur, a deferral from Tim Draper to one of his associates made me immediately flag the venture firm as incompatible. I suggest you do the same if you have innovation that is unprecedented, non-uniform, and prime and do not fancy being tagged as a false negative.
