The world will not collapse anytime soon. We humans may be a different story if we do not change our tune. There is no reason to believe the world is headed for a complete collapse, not for another 3.5 billion years or so.
We, as the human species, on the other hand, may be headed for collapse or self-induced eradication. The economics you refer to and by which we measure our performance within the context of the evolution of the world are flawed. And thus the data most economists use to project our performance is as inaccurate (up or down) as a report card from school not being an accurate indicator of the intelligence of your child.
Hence, our focus in economics ought to be on how we treat each other. We must redefine economics to be relevant to the evolution of mankind and establish the paradoxical “rules of the house” that allows for the protection and amplification of a bright exposure of personal freedoms.
